How often does PPE require inspection?

Inspection and certification is typically carried out every 6 - 12 months. The exact inspection interval will depend on the type of PPE.

How is PPE inspected?

The first step in PPE inspection involves identification of the PPE including the serial number, date of manufacture, and the type of PPE. Depending on the type of PPE checklists are followed to identify defects. These defects may include (but are not limited to):

 

  • Cuts
  • Tears
  • Chemical Damage
  • Frayed or damaged material
  • Damaged stitching or threads
  • Corrosion of metal components
  • Distortion of components
  • Operation of springs and keepers
  • Damage to plastic components

Where PPE is successfully inspected a certificate is issued stating the date of inspection and next due date.
